SUSTAINABILITY
SUSTAINABLE COMPOUNDING: THE HEART OF OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
High performance, low environmental impact: our plastics production model
Reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover are the pillars of the circular economy—a model of production and consumption that is increasingly embraced worldwide, aiming to create sustainable consumption while respecting the environment, the planet’s energy resources, and human health.
In response to growing environmental awareness, rising demand for eco-friendly products, and in full compliance with international regulations, SIR produces high-performance, customized compounds made from recycled polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, and ABS polymers. This process maximizes the applications of recycled plastics, reducing the need for virgin materials derived from petrochemicals.
Our mission is not only to offer low-impact solutions, but also to replace virgin raw materials as much as possible. Every piece of plastic we recycle, every component we regenerate, helps reduce dependence on fossil resources, generating a positive impact on the planet and the communities that inhabit it.
SIR Circular Process: Plastic That Never Becomes Waste
SIR represents the final link in the circular economy, because our supply chain begins when a product, once used, becomes waste.
In our production, we use secondary raw materials derived from two different sources:

Post-industrial
meaning pure plastic waste of specific types and colors, inevitably generated by industrial processes, which we purchase from suppliers across Europe.
Post-consumer
grinding. We have exclusive access to this type of material thanks to our partnership with meaning household plastic waste—typically packaging—which undergoes appropriate treatments before reaching us, including optical sorting, material separation, washing, and Veritas Group, a multi-utility in Veneto that manages the full waste cycle, prioritizing recycling and material recovery.
Our innovative approach and long-standing know-how ensure that plastic can be recycled indefinitely. The quality of recycled plastic materials depends on the care and precision with which we manage each stage of the process. Every time we recycle, our Research & Development department studies the best solutions to maintain high technical properties and return to the market a fully functional product with enhanced performance.
Compounding processes are further optimized by continuous investment in state-of-the-art technologies and top-level partnerships, such as our innovative collaboration with Venice’s municipal utility, which led to the VERIS project. This project enables us to control and certify the supply chain not only from secondary raw materials but already from the post-consumer stage.

We Invest in Sustainable Energy: A Step Forward for the Planet
Beyond our commitment to giving plastic a second life, SIR has always focused on optimizing energy consumption and eliminating waste.
With this in mind, we invested in a trigeneration plant that boosts energy efficiency up to 80%, compared to the 40–50% of traditional thermal power plants.
The trigeneration system uses a gas turbine to generate mechanical energy and waste heat. The mechanical energy is converted into electricity, while the waste heat is used both for heating and for producing cooling through an absorber.
Trigeneration allows a plastic recycling company like ours to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other air pollutants, as it enables the production of the same amount of energy with lower fossil fuel consumption. Thanks to this key technology for the transition toward a smarter and cleaner energy system, SIR has already cut its emissions by 50% compared to national regulations.
With the installation of trigeneration in 2019 and rooftop solar panels for self-consumption in 2025, we are ahead of European guidelines for CO2 reduction and clean energy investment. Our goal is to continue reducing dependence on traditional energy sources, focusing on increasingly green and virtuous solutions.
